Here at GrowthLoop, we understand that data privacy comes first. That’s why we’ve introduced Personally Identifiable Information (PII) tagging to ensure that your business teams can make the most of your customer data while never compromising on privacy or security.
What is Personally Identifiable Information (PII)?
PII is information that can be used, either alone or in combination with other data, to identify a specific individual. Common examples of PII include first name, last name, and social security number.
What happens when I tag fields as PII in GrowthLoop?
When you tag columns from your underlying datasets as PII fields, GrowthLoop blocks them from appearing as filters in your Audience Builder. Tagging columns as PII also prevents users from downloading this data into CSVs.
Who can tag fields as PII in GrowthLoop?
Individuals in your organization who have the “Owner” or “Admin” role within their GrowthLoop app can tag PII fields.
How do I tag PII in GrowthLoop?
You can tag customer data as PII when connecting a new dataset, or editing an existing dataset connection.
Connecting a New Dataset
From the GrowthLoop homepage, click Datasets on the left side of the screen.

Click New Dataset.

Once you have identified the dataset to connect, scroll to the table of fields below. You can identify a field as PII by checking the box in the PII column of the field’s row. Note that if you identify a field as PII, you will no longer be able to set that field as default because it cannot be shown in the Audience Builder.

Once you have finished configuring your dataset, click Save. You’re good to go!
Editing an Existing Dataset Connection
From the GrowthLoop homepage, click Datasets on the left side of the screen.

Scroll to the table of datasets at the bottom of the screen and find the dataset you wish to edit.

Within the modal, scroll down to the table of fields. You can identify a field as PII by checking the box in the PII column of the field’s row. Note that if you identify a field as PII, you will no longer be able to set that field as default because it cannot be shown in the Audience Builder.

Once you have finished configuring your dataset, click Save. You’re all set!
